The World Cup is almost here, and with Canada, Mexico, and the US all hosting matches, each squad will be hoping home-field advantage can fuel a deep run. But which host country is best positioned to advance the furthest?

The Case for the US

The team with likely the highest ceiling of any squad here is a generation of players entering their second World Cup together, looking to make a mark under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Headlined by now-seasoned national team stalwarts Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, and Brenden Aaronson. Likely the most talented generation of footballers the US has ever produced, although historically unable to make too much of a splash in the WC.

In the group stage, they likely have the toughest competition of any of the three squads, with Türkiye posing a challenge. However, the Americans should be able to at least advance past this stage, possibly getting the top seed from their group and ensuring an easier challenge in the knockout stage.

The Case for Mexico

The Case for Canada

Historically a strong squad, Mexico enters the 2026 World Cup with experience and confidence.

Bolstered by the return of now three-time National Team Manager, Javier Aguirre, they knocked off the US 2-1 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last season. Veterans Guillermo Ochoa, Raúl Jiménez, and Santago Giménez have experience in pressure-packed situations and will be a tough out.

They are favored to win their group, also featuring South Korea, South Africa, and Czechia, and advance to the knockout stage. Given their experience and recent success, they are a good bet to advance the furthest of the three host nations.
