Since 2018, many states across the country have been legalizing online sports betting at their own pace. In May 2022, Kansas decided it was its time to shine and Governor Laura Kelly signed a bill legalized both in-person and retail betting into law.

The Kansas Lottery and State Gaming Commission then acted swiftly and had rules and regulations in place in time for a September 1st soft launch with a full launch to follow on September 8th. Kansas was the second-fastest state to go from signing the law to actually launching, trailing behind only Iowa.
