Colorado Sports Betting

From 1992 until 2018, The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) effectively banned placing wagers on any sport except horseracing, dog racing, and jai alai.

This led to the rise of offshore sites that operated in a legal gray area due to the fact that they were not technically based in the States. That all changed when the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA in 2018. The prohibition was lifted, and states had the opportunity to pass legislation enabling their residents to legally bet on sports online.

In 2019, Colorado entered the fray and legalized online sports betting. Since then there has been an absolute boom, with dozens of sportsbooks flooding the market. In fact, Colorado has more sportsbooks available than any other state in the union.

8/15/24 - Betfred Sports announced it would be pulling out of several states, including Colorado, by the end of the year.
3/6/24 - Betting sites in Colorado claimed a record $53.5 billion in revenue in January
12/4/23 - PointsBet has now fully transitioned to Fanatics Sportsbook in Colorado, following its acquisition.
11/14/23 - Barstool Sportsbook has now been re-branded into ESPN BET in Colorado and is now available to new users.
8/29/23 - Sporttrade is now live in Colorado.
8/14/23 - WynnBET is no longer available in Colorado after pulling out of most of their active states.
