From 1992 until 2018, The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) effectively banned placing wagers on any sport except horseracing, dog racing, and jai alai.
This led to the rise of offshore sites that operated in a legal gray area due to the fact that they were not technically based in the States. That all changed when the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA in 2018. The prohibition was lifted, and states had the opportunity to pass legislation enabling their residents to legally bet on sports online.
In 2019, Colorado entered the fray and legalized online sports betting. Since then there has been an absolute boom, with dozens of sportsbooks flooding the market. In fact, Colorado has more sportsbooks available than any other state in the union.

FOX Bet was a venture started by FOX Sports and sporte betting company Flutter. After a few years in the US market a failure to attain a a sizeable market share led the partnership to end and FOX Bet to cease accepting wagers.
26. SuperBook Sportsbook Colorado
After expanding to several states, the SuperBook Sportsbook decided to close its doors in July 2024. Now, users can only access the operator while physically located on the premises of the WestGate SuperBook Sportsbook in Las Vegas.

MaximBet Colorado
MaximBet launched with Colorado as its flagship state in 2021.
Despite a strong product, a big brand name, and even an endorsement from Nicki Minaj, the company decided to bow out of the sports betting industry due to the high competition and economic realities.
MaximBet officially ceased accepting bets in November 2022.

theScore Bet Colorado
theScore Bet was a sportsbook offering from Canadian media company theScore. After attempting to launch as an online sportsbook, theScore was bought out by Penn National Gaming, which also owns a big portion of Barstool Sportsbook.
They have since announced that they are shuttering their US operations to focus on the Canadian market, so bettors in Colorado would be better served signing up with another bookie.
