From 1992 to 2018, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) banned betting on most sports in the US with few exceptions. That all changed when the Supreme Court struck down that law and each state was allowed to institute its own rules and regulations regarding online sports betting.
Louisiana took its time adapting itself to legal sports betting, with voters approving a ballot measure in 2020. However, since then, over a year has passed and sports betting is only now getting off the ground.
