Time to Move on?
After a disappointing 32-50 season that saw the Bucks miss the playoffs for the first time in a decade, the Giannis rumors are once again swirling. With the superstar still in his prime, but little flexibility to build around him, many are thinking it might be time for a split.
Antetokounmpo famously requested a trade before this year's deadline in February, but Milwaukee couldn't get a deal done. However, it now seems inevitable that the Greek Freak will find a new home for the first time in his NBA career. Let's see where the markets think he'll end up.
Top Giannis Antetokounmpo Landing Spots
Breaking Down the Top Fits
While Miami sticks out as the favorite, they may be a tough fit. Some interesting young talent like Pelle Larson, Kel'el Ware, and draft picks may be enough to start a conversation, but may not match some other packages. Pairing Giannis with Bam Adebayo certainly makes the team an interesting contender in a weak East, but the trade would certainly deprive the team of most of its depth.
Boston is the only team listed that would be willing to part with a superstar of its own. With Jaylen Brown's recent comments alluding to the fact that he may want to be the face of his own franchise, it may be time to break him and Jayson Tatum up. It would likely require sending Brown to a third team, but much of Giannis' value would already be matched by including Brown in the trade.
Oklahoma City is the one that will be the most interesting in the wake of their upset loss in the Western Conference Finals. All-NBA Third Team Center Chet Holmgren would be an attractive young centerpiece for the Bucks to kickstart their rebuild around. The Thunder may be willing to ship him off after getting thoroughly dismantled by Wemby in the playoffs. Giannis would provide OKC with a stronger low-post option to throw at San Antonio's star.
Trading a young star for an over-30 player isn't how Thunder President Sam Presti usually operates, but they are undoubtedly the most interesting landing spot.
