Until 2018, The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) banned placing wagers on most sports in the US, with a few exceptions for sports like horse racing, dog racing, and jai alai. When the Supreme Court struck down PASPA, the doors were open for states to institute their own rules and regulations regarding retail and online sports betting.
On May 31, 2019, Pennsylvania officially launched legal online sports betting, paving the way for the betting sites you see listed here to set up shop.
