List of All New York Sportsbooks
Sep 26, 2024

If you're looking for an online sportsbook in New York, we've compiled each and every operator into a single list. Which of these sportsbooks is the best choice for you?

When Will Sports Betting be legal in New York?

Online sports betting is fully operational in New York as of January 8th, 2022. While the bill was signed in April 2021, the bureaucratic process to put the power in the hands of the player has been a long and arduous one.

Hold-ups have included bartering over tax rates and establishing online servers within state lines. While there still has yet to be a definitive date set, the state has announced that it hopes to host fully operational sports betting in NY by the Super Bowl, which takes place on February 13th, 2022.

They've now launched with plenty of time to ensure the kinks are ironed out of the system, and 8 out of the 9 original sportsbooks are still operational.

New York Sports Betting Laws - 5 Key Points

College Sports Betting in New York

Similar to New Jersey, New York is placing some extra restrictions on NCAA betting within state lines. While betting on college sports is legal, bettors cannot bet on New York colleges or universities. That means no betting on Syracuse basketball or football, whether they're playing at home or out of state.

However, you can bet on college games taking place in the state of New York, assuming there is no NY-based team participating. So don't worry - you'll still be able to bet on a Villanova-UConn showdown in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament.

New York Sports Betting Registration

Whatever app or site you use will require a geolocation, so your phone will need to have location services turned on and your desktop will require a geolocator plug-in that the sportsbook should provide when you sign up.

You do not have to be a resident of New York nor do you have to register in-person to start with a betting site.

During the sign up process, you'll most likely have to provide the following info:

  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Last four digits of Social Security Number

This information is used to verify that you are who you say you are and that you are legally allowed to bet on sports.

This strategic move positions Fanatics to rapidly scale its sports betting operations and compete directly with established industry leaders.

Leveraging its deep-rooted connection to sports fans, Fanatics is providing a seamless and engaging betting experience. The platform boasts a user-friendly interface, making it accessible to both seasoned bettors and newcomers.

Fanatics stands out for its free live streaming, as well as its expanded FanCash rewards program, which gives bettors rewards every time they place a bet. Already well-established as a daily fantasy sports operator, since the broad acceptance of online sports betting in the US, FanDuel has become an incredibly dominant brand.

Along with DraftKings Sportsbook, it's one of the two most dominant online sportsbooks in the country. But FanDuel Sportsbook's success is more than just brand recognition - it also has one of the best sports betting apps in the country and innovated the now dominant Same Game Parlay feature.

There's a good chance you know FanDuel already, so if you want to stick to what's familiar, you could do worse.

It's a package that ranks BetMGM among the nation's best sportsbooks, and one of New York's finest out of the gate.

DraftKings Sportsbook NY

Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets Instantly

Once the floodgates of online sports betting opened, the King of Daily Fantasy quickly established itself as the King of Sportsbooks. As the most popular and widely available betting site in the country, DraftKings Sportsbook has supreme brand recognition.

DraftKings Sportsbook lives up to that reputation and has plenty to offer New York bettors, including a nice app, many daily odds boosts, and a shared wallet with the daily fantasy platform. Still, a few sportsbooks have risen to DK's level and it remains to be seen how this monolith will evolve to stay on top.
