Primetime Trailer Drops - Robert Pattinson's Oscar Odds Spike

The jump puts Pattinson third in the market, behind Damon at 32% for The Odyssey and Cruise at 29% for Digger. He now sits ahead of Andrew Scott (Pressure) at 12%, John Malkovich (Wild Horse Nine) at 7%, Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) at 6%, and Jeremy Strong (The Social Reckoning) at 4%.

It is a significant jump for a performance that was barely registering with traders before the trailer arrived. Pattinson’s imitation of Hansen’s measured voice gives the campaign an immediate hook, but the film appears to offer more than a familiar impression. Primetime looks set to explore the tension between journalism, ratings and the spectacle that turned To Catch a Predator into a controversial cultural phenomenon.

That should give Pattinson the morally grey material that has defined much of his post-Twilight career choices. The difference is that Primetime packages it inside the kind of role that Academy voters usually love. Despite acclaimed performances in Good Time, The Lighthouse, and Mickey 17, he has never received an Oscar nomination. His busy 2026 strengthens the broader case that this could be the year the Academy acknowledges that he is more than the sparkly vampire.

Still, Pattinson is up against two of the biggest movie stars of their generation, both with more compelling career narratives.

Damon is attached to the season’s strongest film. The Odyssey is already a commercial success and the early Best Picture favorite, giving him a campaign that should remain visible across nearly every stage of the race. Even voters who prefer another performance may be swept up by the film’s overall momentum. This would mark his first acting win, although he and Ben Affleck previously won Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.

Cruise has the most compelling career narrative. Digger marks a return to prestige after years of Jack Reacher and Ethan Hunt. This will also mark his first collaboration with Alejandro González Iñárritu, who notably helped Leonardo DiCaprio win his long-overdue first trophy for The Revenant. Cruise has never won an Academy Award, and a Best Actor victory would carry a different weight after decades as one of Hollywood’s defining stars.

Pattinson’s path is therefore less certain, but it may have more room to grow. Damon and Cruise were already established at the top of the market. Primetime has only just entered the conversation, and its most important tests are still to come.

The film is scheduled to premiere in competition at the Venice International Film Festival. Strong reviews there would confirm that the trailer is selling a complete performance rather than a handful of effective moments. More importantly, they could establish Primetime as a contender in the screenplay and Best Picture categories, giving Pattinson the broader support usually needed to win.

That remains the biggest question behind his 15% price. The market is predicting the Oscar winner, not simply the nominees. Pattinson may already have the profile, transformation and career narrative required to reach the final five. Beating Damon and Cruise will probably require voters to embrace the film around him as well.
